Staccato

Staccato is a form of musical articulation. In modern notation, it signifies a note of a shortened duration. A dot placed above or below a note indicates that it should be played staccato. Staccato is signified in the music notation and typically not in the tablature.

The best way to perform a staccato note is to mute the note immediately after it is struck with either the fretting hand or the picking hand.
